Is Socialism Evil?

No form of government is intrinsically good or bad. In the US, we have a variation of socialism: our government provides subsidies, monetary

incentives, interest free loans, and funding to corporations. The idea is that if the businesses are happy and productive they will share the wealth. Now corporations are seeking continual growth in profits - that does not benefit workers or clients.

The type of socialism that people suggest is scary is where the government subsidies go directly to the people. We already have libraries, schools, police departments that are fully funded by the government. Many governments support universal healthcare, prescritions managed by the government, housing support, and basic income support. Public transportation, internet, and childcare are also supported. In France, they support Housekeeping by providing a 50% tax rebate on the cost as well as free housekeepers for the poor and elderly.

Can you be rich under socialism? Yes. The taxes may be more aligned with your wealth. Right now, a teacher in Utah pays more in taxes than Chevron. Under socialism, a larger income comes with larger taxes; perhaps a 2% tax for everyone. You can still have mansions, planes, crazy expensive watches, and exotic cars.

Can you be poor under socialism? It's safer. You can even go to college if you are poor - it's free. Many countries have free university with a small stipend to help you eat and live while you go to school. If you are poor, you would have little cash to spend but you would still have a place to live, groceries, and healthcare.

Does the government spy on you in a socialist country? You are mixing up authoritarianism with socialism. Socialism is about how wealth and services are distributed. Authoritarianism is when a government puts a lot of money and effort into policing their own citizens. Realistically, they are probably listening to your phone all over the world. The questions comes with 'what do they do with that information.'
